Trivia

  • This is the last Barbie film to air on television in the US. Since 2002 up until 2017, the films had aired on Nickelodeon regularly. From the following film/movie onwards, the Barbie movies would be distributed on Netflix instead.
  • This is also the last Barbie film to be animated under the name of Rainmaker Entertainment and the last to be distributed by Universal Pictures on home video.
  • Five gaming platforms were shown in this film.
    • An anime-inspired roller skating game, which is called Level 1.
    • A 2D-animated match game, also known as Level 2.
    • A bonus level which is similar to Level 1. It was discovered by Barbie after completing Level 2. This is the level where she runs to escape a wrecking ball behind not only her, but the other 2 contenders - Maia and Gaia.
    • A pixelized block-building world, which is called Level 3.
    • The final game is Just Dance, a real-life dancing game.
  • While playing Barbie's video game Cupcake Caverns, Renee refers to herself as a "n00b". This is gamer slang for someone who is new to a video game.
  • Before Barbie races Kris and Bella, Kris yells, "Are you ready for what the Kris is cooking?" This refers to retired professional wrestler Dwayne Johnson's catchphrase, "Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?"
  • While escaping from the emojis riding on the tornado-powered carousel, Barbie jumps over a fake shark obstacle while she's using her roller skates. Kris says, "What?! Wow, Barbie really jumped the shark!" This is a reference to the American television show Happy Days, where the character Fonzie jumps over a shark while on water skis.
  • In the third level, Bella references the 1979 movie The Warriors, by saying "Virus, come out and play."
