The Inter-Academy Equestrian Tournament is an annual tournament between Alpine Academy and all the other local riding schools. The prize money is substantial, and Marlene needs it or she may have to sell Alpine, since she is struggling financially. Alpine has not won a tournament in 11 years and usually loses to Ecole Montagne. Marlene hopes Alpine's riding master, Etienne Cheynet, will lead them to victory. It is tradition for Etienne to ride for Alpine. Barbie befriends a wild horse and names her Majesty. Majesty is one of the legendary Majestique horses.
Alpine hosts the 108th Annual Inter-Academy Equestrian Tournament. Marlene's nieces Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea want to participate in the tournament so they can win the prize money for Marlene. Skipper wants Barbie to compete in the steeplechase with Majesty, but Barbie doesn't want people to find out the Majestiques exist because she worries the herd will be hunted down and broken apart by Philippe Cheynet of Ecole Montagne. Barbie wants Etienne to compete in the steeplechase.
On the first day of the tournament, Chelsea participates in the Pretty Pony Parade with Dash and they win 1st place. Chelsea gets a rosette. Next, Skipper and her horse Juniper compete against Jonas of Ecole Montagne in the dressage competition. Skipper wins 1st place and gets a trophy. Stacie does the cross-country competition with her horse Pepper, who she initially had trouble bonding with. Stacie comes 2nd to Stephanie Coda and King's Cross of Ecole Montagne. Stacie's event concludes the opening day competitions.
That night, the inter-academy formal dance takes place. Philippe sabotages Alpine by unlocking a horse corral. Chelsea tries to ride a horse in the corral, but the horse panics. People hear Chelsea and the horse outside, so they go to see what is happening. Etienne gets kicked while standing behind the horse, so his arm gets broken. Several horses escape from the unlocked corral so Barbie, Skipper, and a boy named Jonas from Ecole Montagne track down the horses. On their way back to Alpine, they encounter Philippe, who is searching for the Majestiques. Philippe plans on winning the tournament and buying Alpine and its land so he can profit from the Majestiques. Barbie finds out that Etienne can't compete due to his broken arm.
On day two of the tournament, the concluding event is the annual 3.2 kilometer steeplechase at Bernwald Racetrack. Alpine Academy and Ecole Montagne are tied going into this race. Barbie competes with Majesty against Philippe and his horse Hurricane. Majesty struggles at first because she is out of her element, but once she relaxes, she does well. However, Philippe sabotages his competitors during the race and he tears Majesty's saddle. Barbie falls off Majesty and finishes the race without the saddle and headcollar. Barbie and Majesty win, so Barbie gets a trophy and Alpine wins the overall tournament trophy. Skipper filmed the race and posted it online, so Alpine's enrolment tripled.
